If you are a bicyclist, this is your store

This is a great place to buy bikes and related goods, but also a place where you can have your bicycle fixed. The prices are reasonable as is the selection, though they don't have enough kids bikes for my taste.

The service we received at Wheels & Things was the worst I've experienced. We were made to feel like dirt from the moment we arrived. When we came in, the owner threw us a pump and told us to get to work, even though we had made clear over the phone that we knew nothing about bike repair. For half an hour we struggled to figure out why we had come to a bike repair shop only to have to repair our own bike. The proprietor, meanwhile, shot us condescending glances and commented snidely on our apparent incompetence. At last, he completed some of the required service himself, before returning it (still inoperable), charging us, and telling us how much more work needed to be done. In short, our visit was a waste of time, and we were made to feel like idiots in the process. Don't bother.

Saved my flat

This is a neighborhood shop with lots of neighborhood feel. Don't be put off by the two lazy dogs or the squawking parrot. The last time I road my bike along lakeshore to Hyde Park this was the only shop open, and he happily fixed my flat in less then ten minutes.
Thank you Wheels and Things!

Not happy with service or prices

I brought my bike here for a tune up. It is a decent road bike but hasn't been tuned up for a while so it had a few problems I was hoping they could resolve. Within the first five minutes I was there, the proprietor succeeded in insulting my riding ability, my hometown, and my bike. We decided I needed a new rear tire, and he told me that would cost me another $50 for the kevlar tire (on top of the $60 for the tune up.) However, I looked online and the tire was $25 and not made of kevlar (although even decent kevlar tires go for about $25 online). While I'm willing to pay a premium to buy local, I'm not willing to pay double, so I called him and told him not to put it on. I went to retrieve the bike the next day, a Wednesday, and to my surprise the shop is closed on Wednesdays. I retrieved it today and was told that he could not true the back wheel, and that he could not unstick the back break. However, the break was actually not stuck when we looked at it, and so he adjusted it accordingly. I wonder if a better mechanic could true the wheel? I paid the $60 and took the bike. However, after a few blocks I started feeling the wheel bump the road and realized the tires were not really inflated! I road the bike back and the guy filled them up-admitted he forgot but didn't apologize. The good thing about the tune up is that the bike came back clean and does seems to ride smoother. The bad thing is that the wheel is not trued and there is now a new noise I have never heard before. While I love a neighborhood feeling shop and a guy with character, he should realize that there is a lot of competition, both online and locally, and that better service and prices are expected.

They act as if they're doing you a favor!

Wheels & Things has absolutely horrible customer service. I walked in and the worker standing no more than five feet from me and looking at me as I entered continued repairing a bicycle and did not even acknowledge my presence.

I stood for about three minutes expecting someone to come forward from the rear of the shop, or this worker to ask if he could help me or if I needed some assistance, he nor anyone else did.

After asking aloud, ?Is anyone going to ask if I need help??, the worker (who was repairing a bicycle) said to me, ?as soon as I finish.?

I promptly walked out.

If you want to be treated like dirt, this is the place for you!
