avoid at all costs
First of all the management here is terrible. The woman that owns this place is two-faced, I have seen her bad-mouth other customers, right in front of me. The beds are old and not very clean, and her prices are decent but the bulbs are old. You get what you pay for.

A Great Place TO Tan!
I had told a friend about this salon and had highly recommended it to her. She said she had read a bad review about it on this web site. I could not believe it. I had to write my own review. I have been tanning here for almost seven years. I travel for my job and have tanned at numerous tanning salons. Southern Exposure has a friendly helpful staff. The store is clean. The beds are nice beds with great lamps. I had to laugh when I read the previous review. I know who the owners are and they are both very nice and helpful. They own several salons and know what they are doing. As for the beds and lamps (they are not bulbs), I have had no problem with them. They are usually clean. I imagine that during Spring Break it is hard to keep things 100% clean. As for the lamps, do you honestly think lamps are always new? It is impossible!! There will be some point in the year when the lamps will be old and less effective. Every tanning salon has to deal with this!! Here is another fact I have learned over the years, some older tanning beds actually tan better!! Why? They have a better tanning design. You do have to purchase your own eyewear. That may be a negative to some, but I think It is great! I do not want to use community eyewear. Most of the places I visit when I travel have the same policy. Why? Liability. They do not want to get sued if someone gets pink eye or some other eye infection. I think it is smart. Lastly I want to say that their prices are very fair compared to other salons. The previous reviewer needs to get a clue!! Maybe they were talking about you and you over heard them. They probably said what a pain in the a** you are and I think they are right.

Give Southern Exposure a chance!
After reading the first "horrible" review, I was hesitant to visit this salon. But the location is so convenient for me, I decided to give it a try. I printed out the review and bought it to the manager because I know how I would feel if I lost business because of one bad review. I have only had 2 visits, but the manager is pleasant, sweet and helpful. The salon is clean, products are readily available and the bed/room I used was clean as well. Please give this salon a chance regardless of what a previous aggravated customer may have experienced!

Have to agree with former employee
I would have to agree with the first post. I have worked at a tanning salon and am knowledgeable. The prices are good here, but the beds are not worth it. Period. I tanned here for a very long time and to get some color took forever. It is true that for the lamps- which really are long bulbs- cannot always be brand new, but how long they are used DOES make a difference. A bulb that has not reached is half-life will produce the best tan. That means that the bulb could be turned on until it dies out, but after the first half of that amount of time, the bulb is not strong enough to actually tan the body well. If a tanning salon replaces it's bulbs two or three times a year, the bulbs are very good. From experience tanning here, the bulbs are NOT changed regularly enough, and often times the lamps are not strong enough to even be worth the money, even though it seems like a deal. I have also tanned here when the manager's children were running around and everybody was screaming. Another time I heard the manager on the phone badmouthing on of her employees who couldn't come to work because she was in the hospital. Also, the employees would always be talking on the phone and trying to squeeze my business into their important conversations. It all seemed very unprofessional to me... but the store is clean.

Terrible management, very unprofessional
I would not recommend this tanning facility to anyone! I was a loyal customer for years. The prices are reasonable, however, now that I have tanned at other facilities, I know the beds are not very good. It takes much longer to get a decent tan than other places. Not only have I spoken to other customers who do not have good things to say, but I have experienced the two-faced personality of the manager personally. She brings her children to work with her all day, which does not give off a very professional image. She is nice to your face, but don't let that fool you. I have heard her badmouth numerous customers after they leave. Of course she is entitled to her own opinion, but there is no need to share that with customers around. I also know that she spoke poorly of me to her 5 year old child, which is very disrespectful, not to mention unprofessional. She is disrespectful to her employees as well!
