New lunch hotspot
My boyfriend's mom came into town and she is picky about food. We tried laughing planet on 21st. I was skeptical, but I tried the chicken burrito- so good!! I even tried my boyfriend's moms tempeh with barley. I never thought I'd try anything like that or even like it! I recommended laughing planet to everyone at work- its our new fave!not worth your time
I've been to Laughing Planet six times, once over on Belmont and the other five on Mississippi. I have been disappointed almost each time. First thing first, they do not serve burritos they serve wraps. The taste is at best bland and you have to add guacamole ( @ $1.50 ) for it to be at all decent. I will say their vegan treats are decent, the chocolate cookie especially. I want to add a note on their consistency. I bought a grilled chicken w/ guacamole one day for lunch on Mississippi and was somewhat satisfied with the content. Whoever created it, made it worth the $6.75(7.75w/ tip) because it was packed with ingredients and I felt sort of good knowing most of the ingredients were local. I decided to go back the next day, bought the same item, same price and was met with almost half of what I received the day prior. That's unacceptable and it was enough to keep me from going back.great for the neighborhood
we live two or three blocks away from the Belmont location and use it a lot (and enjoy it) when we don't have time to cook or, say, like today, when it's too freakin' hot. we've eaten there dozens of times in the past several years. i almost always have the bubba burrito, which has smoked turkey, and have never had to take it back. the normal-size burrito is satisfying for this normal-size guy. the vegan cookies are great. the motif is eclectic, with everything from the children's book "everybody poops" to a giant picture of Frank Zappa huffin' a muggle to many plastic dinasaurs and art by Crumb. The atmosphere is loud and the seating isn't comfortable, but the food is solid and they seem to have a sustainable bent so we patronize. suffice to say, i wouldn't drive or ride across town for it, but it's great for the neighborhood.che guavara
....would be honored to have such a burrito named after him. Hempseed hazelnut cookies are outta this world, and I'm pleased that I can get a carrot-beet juice if I feel like it.Best Organic Burritos
Laughing Planet adds the most amazing ingredients to create healthy food made to order. I love the green chile buritto with jack cheese and black beans, their salsa is killer too! You definately feel good about what you put in your body after you eat here. Plus they've got a location for whatever side fo the river you're on!Neat and yummy place
I love the Laughing Planet Cafe. I've never had a trouble with my vegetarian orders having meat in them as the previous reviewer has said (which I think is really unfortunate and odd). Their burritos are VERY good. The atmosphere is funky and fun. I love the dinosaurs! The vegan cookies are absolutely to die for too, although a little pricey. The Laughing Planet Cafe is definitely worth checking out!Not all Vegetarians are bitter and angry . . .really
I've eaten at Laughing Planet at least 25 times and have never had chicken in any vegetarian item that I have ordered. If you read the reviews on this website often - you would get the idea that all vegetarians are whiny, complaining, cheap people - I swear we are not all like that. The vegan bowls rule at Laughing Planet. The food is good and inexpensive, and the people that work there are really nice.Vegees whine when the food is porkely!
I'm vegan and I am very sensitive to the fact that I am asking for something out of the ordinary from MOST restaurants. Laughing Planet is a place, one of a handful in Portland, that makes me feel pretty comfortable. I actually have never had to ask them, " Is there any cow butt in that? " Or, " It's ok. I will just peel off this mucous forming from my " vegan " 'tito. "Flavorful burritos
I've been to the one on NW 21st and the new Woodstock location, so can't vouch for Belmont, but I assume the food is standard across the board. The Che Guevara burrito is awesome! Get it with tempeh, it's very tasty. The Hole Mole burrito was good, as was the spinach burrito... but really they pale in comparison to the Che. They also have vegan baked goods - the peanut butter brownie is tasty.Great cheap eats
It's fun but not always fast. Again, sometimes they even forget to give you soup before your other food. The chili is too tomatoey, the burritos should be a liltle smaller and the menau a litle bigger.Vegetarian food to die for
Most of the time when I frequent a restaurant I know exactly what I want (one of the two vegetarian options). When I go to LPC, I have no idea what to order. The vegetarian/vegan options are extensive (and my carnivorous friends can only get free-range chicken as a meat option at LPC). So far I have had several burritos, chips and salsa, and the most AMAZING vegearian chili ever. As of yet, I have not had any meat found in my food, no slow service, and no problems at all. The food is always piping hot and delicious, and a good break from macaroni and cheese, and sandwiches. For those worried about bland flavor, I assure you this is not. I order my burritos without the Pico de Gallo (cilantro is yuck), but add the habanero salsa for an extra spicy kick. There is a large children's menu, with the most expensive item priced at $3.75. You can keep your lunch extra cheap with no drink (trust me, you won't have room for anything but water), and no added meat or tofu (beans and rice make complete protien anyway). Go get some today, and make sure to try the chili. It might burn your intestines, but it is the best thing I have ever eaten. Be sure and take your kids, as the Belmont location has fun dinosaur toys to keep them busy.Horrible atmosphere
If you can get pst the horrible way they treat their employees, ie. yelling at them in front of customers, then try to get past the soggy bowls I will never eat here again.Delicous and healthy grub at an affordable price
I have been happy customer of Laughing Planet for several years and I usually pay them a weekly visit for lunch or dinner. I recently pleased to learn that Laughing Planet uses many sustainable practices to ensure they are taking care of our planet. On their website it says they use a central location to prp all of their food and get that food from location to location with bio diesel fueled vehicles. They do their best to fill their burritos and bowls with locally grown ingredients including antibiotic free chicken from Washington state. The best thing is they compost all of their leftovers and recycle their waste! All of this and their food is scrumptious. I am a big fan of the Che Guevara burrito. Thanks Laughing Planet for taking care of our Planet and providing us with great food!Good eats
My dinner was tasty. A lil over priced for what I got, but I'm willing to pay a lil extra to support local business.Tasteless
Some friends and I stumbled into this place on Belmont in the early afternoon. It was not busy and we sat down at the counter...stared at the people behind the counter...they stared back, not a hello, not a word about how we needed to walk five feet feet to the cash register to order...okay, maybe we are stupid, but you could at least let us know how things work!thank you!!!
for opening a location on the SW side. We just moved from SE to SW and good food over here is almost non-existent (open to suggestions). The Belmont Laughing Planet was one of our regular stops as it is kid-friendly, vegetarian friendly, a great cheap eat, and super tasty. Happy to see that it is now in SW Portland by Gabriel Park where we will be regular customers. Hopefully other good local cafes and restaurants will follow.Great food, great service, great hangout
This is a great neighborhood place. The food is inexpensive, healthy, and always good. The people who work there are consistently friendly. I live in the neighborhood and have been to L. Planet dozens of times and have never had bad food.great place for yummy vegan food
I enjoy your food and my fave is the 'guy quera' (sp) burrito and all your smoothies and vegan cookies. Please think about opening a restaurant in Vancouver, WA!!!good and quick
The Laughing Planet has nice full burritos. Good salsa as well that they let you get as much as you like to drown your burro in.Good food typical bad portland service
New to the area we stopped in for lunch based on reviews on here. Food was good, healthy, and filling. The only downside rude service. If I order a burrito minus something I don't need the staff to ask me why I don't want that ingredient. I don't want and really it's rude to even ask. If they share tips here the counter people are screwing the cooks over by rude service cause we usually tip well. Might try it again someday to see if it improves.Worldwide > United States > Portland, OR > American Restaurants
