Gary J. Cantrell, DO

Dr. Gary Cantrell is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida followed by a Masters in Public Health from University of North Florida. As he was completing his MPH, he decided he wanted to become a physician. He earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Following his education, he moved to Blacksburg, Virginia to complete a Family Medicine residency at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery.“I believe the health of the physician-patient relationship affects the health of the patient. Active listening, trust-building and partnership with my patient helps nurture our relationship. I believe that most illnesses can be treated and prevented with lifestyle changes. My job as a physician is to try to understand my patient as a whole so that I can offer individualized education, guidance and evidence-based advice that allows my patient to make important decisions about their health.”As a Family Medicine physician, Dr. Cantrell enjoys getting to know each patient on an individual level and building a relationship with them.

He is passionate about musculoskeletal care, OMT, minor procedures, joint injections, trigger point injections, adult care, and preventative medicine. When he is not at work, Dr. Cantrell enjoys spending time with his dog, golf, hiking, skiing, boating, fishing, and training for his next triathlon. He loves to travel and it is his goal to go to every national park in the United States.
