Bonnie joined the Cancer Centers of Colorado at St. Mary’s Medical Center oncology team in 2018. She has her Doctorate of Nursing Practice, which is the highest degree in the nursing profession. Bonnie has more than 30 years of experience in nursing, with a clinical focus in oncology. She specializes in the treatment and management of hematology and oncology conditions.
Prior to relocating to Grand Junction, Shaffer worked and lived on the Front Range of Colorado. She is originally from Thurmont, Maryland, which is famously known as the location of Camp David, the president of the United States’ country retreat.
Bonnie received her Associate of Arts in Nursing from Frederick Community College in Maryland and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She earned her Master’s of Science degree as an Adult/Gerontologic Health Clinical Nurse Specialist from the University of Colorado in Denver and received her certification in oncology. She completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Educational Leadership at American Sentinel University in Aurora.
She loves to educate others, whether that is spending time talking with patients and their families to ensure they understand their disease and treatment plan, being a resource to nursing staff on the oncology unit, or helping to influence the next generation of nurses.
Bonnie is married and has two grown daughters, as well as two grandchildren. When not at work, Bonnie and her husband enjoy camping, exploring the outdoors on four wheelers and leisurely rides on their motorcycle.
