This guy is actually located in Northern Virginia, not St Louis. He even has a Northern VA phone number. Maybe he used to work in St Louis, but not any longer **WARNING!!!***STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY, STEVE SCOTT and his "Plantation Shutters". The quality is horrendous and I can only imagine all of the good reviews here are reviews he has planted on here himself. This guy is a SCAMMER. I found out about him from a friend who was referred by her new home builder. His prices were great (first warning sign). He came to my house and measured and took my $3200 deposit, claiming he would come back to finish up measurements. My friend called me in a panic because he was in the middle of her installation and it was a disaster, she was warning me to cancel before he destroyed my home. I went over to her house to see for myself and it was worse than she described on the phone. Here is what he did: -HE SPRAY PAINTED her shutters INSIDE HER HOME with the windows closed. The bedrooms were a toxic mess, the worse part is that he did this inside her 6 month old infant’s nursery and her 3yr olds room. -There were drip marks everywhere -Some of the shutters had odd dark spots -There was spackle everywhere-who knows why he was using spackle on a shutter install?! -there were screw holes everywhere, where he had screwed in the wrong spot and started in a new spot. -The shutters did not properly open and close -The shutters were not level. -Most of the louvers were not working It looked like he had pieced together a bunch of factory seconds and was trying to cobble together something that resembled a shutter. The work was probably about as bad as if I had attempted this on my own, but even I would have never attempted to use a spray paint can inside my home, let alone with windows closed. I called Steve because he had not finished up my measurements and not purchased materials and told him due to the work I had seen at my friends house (she threw him off the job) that I wanted a refund. He said he would refund my money, but it never happened. He made up a bunch of excuses about paypal...one excuse after another. This was 6 weeks ago. I have no money refunded and a load of excuses. My friend is also out her money, same thing, she is out $5,000 and full of excuses. Luckily I used Amex and am going through the dispute process. I would have never posted this review if Steve had done the right thing and given me my deposit back, I would have left it alone, however, since he has run away with my money and the money of my friend, I am left with no other option than to spread the word to warn others.
