I needed to take legal action against Knight for mismanagement of my project work & funds. For my project promised to be 8-10 weeks in duration, 10 months later, Knight had attempted less than 25% of the work, but had required me to pay 75% of the contract price. The work Knight did is jaw-dropping shoddy throughout. Corners are not square, walls are bowed, soffits are not level, pocket doors are not aligned, windows are not centered. Knight even used staples instead of nails to frame the inside walls. Knight's electrician, JZ Electric, was paid thousands of dollars, but did not fulfill the contract work. They did not align or evenly space the recessed ceiling lights. They put a ceiling fan between two recessed lights, so with the lights on & the fan going it will produce a strobe light effect. The plumber was also paid for work not provided under the contract. A shower was not provided & several feet of concrete did not need to be broken up or patched, but the credit Knight offered was a mere $200.00. Knight tore the screen in a window they installed, then refused to replace the screen. I had to hire another company to redo the inside work around the window. Another window they installed leaks. We got a huge run-around from Knight, his employees, & subcontractors on so many, many more issues. For Knight to take money for work that he did not perform or refused to do, then refuse me fair and just credit is theft to me. Knight spent over $5,000.00 of my money for flooring that I did not receive. 16 hours in mediations, 15 hours of arbitration, tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees to seek justice, an award that does not cover my losses, a house that remains a mess after 4 years spent trying to get Knight to honor the contract and follow the work listed within. Dealing with the owner & the way he did business was the most horrific experience. Knight withheld paperwork that I was legally entitled to and altered other paperwork that he had no legal right to do. There are similar complaints on Angie's List and I have heard accounts from others that sickens me to know that I was not the only customer targeted.
