TERRIBLE WORKMANSHIP & SERVICE!!!

My only real complaint is that I have to give one star when zero was earned. I would never use this company's "service” in a million years!!

We bought a beautiful, extra deep 36-jet tub & shower panel system from Etch Coat. Our initial excitement was soon tempered by having to deal with the owner, Mike, whose demeanor changed almost immediately after we signed the contract. The basics such as scheduling the job were a challenge b/c of what I can only describe as a difficult attitude of the owner and call screening process we had to go through to ever speak with him.

Mike had to come back w/in a year b/c water from the new tub & plumbing installed by Etch Coat in our 2nd floor bathroom found its way into two light fixtures in the ceiling of our 1st floor kitchen. Not good. He said he fixed the problem as best he could given the limited access panel (another sign they were not willing to do what was truly needed)...the problem (this time): poorly fastened PVC pipes under the tub.

After much debate, Mike agreed to grace us w/ his presence one more time after a few more months b/c water marks now appeared "just” on the ceiling of the kitchen. After playing w/ some more PVC pipes, he suggested we "just” prime the water marks on the ceiling and paint over it. He, as you may have guessed by now, wasn't going to do this.

The 3rd time, while necessary, was not a charm. For reasons unrelated to the Etch Coat tub/plumbing issues, we remodeled our lower level altogether, including a new knockdown textured kitchen ceiling. You guessed it - water marks appears shortly thereafter. Mike was done with us he said we now couldn't prove the problem was due to EC (b/c we put more mud & paint over the problem and it still leaked?).

$360 and two hours of on-site service of a plumber later fixed four of the obvious shortcuts from the Etch Coat tub install and plumbing modifications that the plumber saw in the short time he was there (inadequately secured water overflow & shower head, and two things with the EC install of the new shower handle). Our plumber though, could not guarantee us that there wasn't more w/o getting at the rest/majority of the plumbing behind the front of the shower and recognized this was getting expensive.

A friend who is a handyman was able to do this for a more affordable cost. Results & Observations: 1) Cause of the actual problem plumber's putty used to reinforce an obvious "shoddy” job of soldering of copper tubing and a coupling; 2) Front wall of the shower that was roughed in was on a subtle angle (not completely level / vertical); 3) "Just enough” (i.e., bare minimum) done to carve a hole in the front shower panel for the new shower handle fixture & components to fit (not flush), not what was needed to do it properly; 4) Removal of the damaged drywall in the kitchen ceiling, mud & re-mud, new texture, prime, & paint.
