Welcome to Thrive Breastfeeding, owned and operated by Amy Brucker! There is nothing like the journey of parenthood -- it's rewarding, exhausting, awe-inspiring, and overwhelming all at the same time. And, as a mother of three, it is absolutely the best thing I've ever done. However, when it came to breastfeeding, I had no idea what I was doing and no frame of reference or hands-on support. So, while I look back with joy at having nursed all of my children, I certainly wish I knew then what I know now as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Acquiring IBCLC status was a vigorous endeavor, requiring that I complete hundreds of lactation field-relevant clinical hours (mine were at Sibley Memorial Hospital, along with other outpatient settings) and pass the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) exam. In addition, I have attended numerous lectures and courses as well as taught prenatal and postpartum childbirth education classes.
