Often efficiency of this heat transfer is critical. In applications such as power stations, the quicker a process completes the more money the power station will make overall. The transfer process often involves tubes running through a chamber, as one fluid runs through the tubes, another runs through the chamber, and as this happens, heat is transferred from one fluid to another. Think how quickly a hot pan cools under cold water, this is the exact same principle. Often the fluid removing heat will then be used elsewhere in another part of the process, maintaining high efficiency.
