Any good interior designer should begin with asking the client what they intend to use the room for. What do they like and dislike in terms of styling and features? For instance, are they after a relaxed atmosphere or something more formal? Do they like a country feel or perhaps something Victorian? These questions will give an idea of the sort of lifestyle the clients lead or want. This is important because a room or home should be styled to meet the functions and aspirations of the client, rather than the designer just forging ahead with their own personal preferences.
