I shoot very differently than most portrait photographers. I don’t shoot quickly, frame after frame, hoping to catch something on film. Instead I study you through the lens, and wait for your perfect moment… I capture true beauty by allowing your inner Spirit to shine through.

Fads and gimmicks come and go, but I have always stayed true to my distinctive style, my photographs never look dated, always look classic and beautiful. You know a Deborah Michael when you see it, it is something about the way you feel when you view my work... My subject is present...

My distinctive style is a product of a fine art education at Columbia College of Chicago. Working in medium format, largely in Black & White, my portraits illustrate contrast, intensity and emotion. My photographs are clean, with a magazine feel, every detail being of my creation.

I’ve been shooting portraits professionally since 1990, when I opened my first studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. My work is mostly done by feel- Just by releasing what is no longer working for you, shifting what is left, adding a few special new elements, and clearing your space of any negative energy- you'll be amazed at how different you feel- and don't be surprised if your whole life changes as a result!

I believe we are in constant renewal- unfortunately most of us are recreating the same reality over and over- making a choice and believing we have to relive it for the rest of their lives. I believe we need to check in with ourselves, and ask, is this still appropriate for me today? We must release the old to make room for the new in our lives! So many of us hold on to things that no longer hold any meaning, or worse, hold negative feelings. We should look at the people, activities and things in our lives- and ask ourselves- does this ______ feed me? Or suck energy FROM me? And then boldly make the change if it is necessary, and then just wait for the new to flow in!

I am very sensitive to energy- you know that feeling, you walk into a space, and instantly it feels wonderful or neutral or bad, or chaotic- or any other human emotion... that feeling could come from the layout, the items, the color, smell, the people, or even something that has recently taken place there. All of these areas need to be addressed- You need to ask yourself what does my space feel like? And what do I want it to say?
