Dr. Amit Sarkar

Amit Sarkar, M.A., Ph.D., LL.B. retired as a Judge, Senior Attorney Supreme Court of India and an author of several books. Dr. Sarkar was also Secretary to a federally administered Union Territory Government, in Law, Judicial, Legislative, and Local Administration departments. In that capacity he advised the local Governor and the Government of India in Policy Planning and implementation, and in laying out the infrastructure of civil administration, the Judiciary, and planned development. Dr. Sarkar was a Member of Review Board under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). Dr. Sarkar was also Designated Judge under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA). He was the architect of a Presidential Ordinance, later enacted by the Parliament, amending the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India. He practiced corporate and International law at Supreme Court of India and was legal counsel to several Multinational Corporations.

As a Corporate Attorney, he contributed to growth of many Joint Ventures and Indo-American Collaborations. He authored several books on law-allied subjects. He was also a Specialist teacher at the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science. Dr. Sarkar came to USA in 1992 as a Visiting Scholar to Boston University, and worked in the areas of Human Rights and Law in Sociology department. He studied US Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration in Northeastern University at Boston. Dr. Sarkar is a Life Member of Indian Association of Criminology and South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston, USA. He is also a board member of Arable Corporation USA. He is a recognized lyricist and composer for HMV records, All India Radio and Hilltop Records, Hollywood, California.
