Joy Falkenburg, M.D.

Joy Falkenburg, M.D. is a Family Medicine Physician at Monument Health Custer Clinic. She received her medical degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine Residency at the Monument Health Rapid City Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Falkenburg came to Custer on rotation with Dr. Graber in 1999 and joined the practice in 2003. Having grown up on a ranch 30 miles outside of Edgemont, she wanted to develop rural medicine and help improve access to medicine in the Southern Hills area. Her passion lies in community medicine, meeting patients where they’re at and helping them navigate the medical system. A strong belief in the interconnectedness of humans along with an understanding that mind, body and spirit cannot be separated guides her practice. Full spectrum Family Medicine and caring for all ages of patients is important to her. She does obstetrical and pediatric care, geriatric and internal medicine and treats patients of all ages in between.

Dr. Falkenburg helped develop the Healing and Wellness garden and the WiseMind library at the Custer Hospital and Clinic. She enjoys her life with her family and extended family outside of Edgemont. When not in the clinic or hospital, you may find her tending the hospital garden, working on her farm and garden or visiting with friends and community members at a local cafe.
