The Belmont Club is located in the in the historic "John Young House," built in 1845. It has operated continually since the ratification of the 18th Ammendment to the United States Constitution, which ended Prohibition in 1933. The house was built in 1845 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is one of the few surviving homes built close to the city's business district soon after the devastating 1843 fire. The house was opened as the Belmont Club in 1933 and has been a drinking establishment ever since.
The Club has been open to the public since 1979 and has been owned and operated by the Brennan family during this time, most notable by the late John R. Brennan who took over the club in 1948. The Belmont Club has an intrinsic Fall River atmosphere and is a historic and cultural landmark.
