Sleep Disorder Center

The Sleep Disorders Centers at Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hosptital assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with complaints related to sleeping and waking functions. The center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine to address the full spectrum of sleep and alertness problems. Results of testing are sent tot he referring doctor for consultation with the patient.
Patients usually spend the night in the cneter and leave in time for work the next morning. Rooms are attractively furnished and have private baths. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria for patiens who prefer to dine before leaving the hospital.
Testing involves painless, non-invasive electrodes that attached to the scalp and skin. These monitor sleep stages, heart rate, respiration, leg and eye movements, and blood oxygen levels.
The tests provide data to help diagnose problems such as sleep apnea, insomnia, myoclonus (involuntary jerking of muscles), narcolepsy, and gastroesophageal reflux.
