Urogynecology, a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is devoted to the correction of pelvic floor problems. The pelvic floor comprises the muscles, ligaments, and nerves that help support and control the rectum, uterus, vagina, and bladder. The pelvic floor may be injured by childbirth, surgery, or chronic strenuous activity. Injury is frequently accompanied by alterations in bladder, sexual and bowel function.
