This is the flagship facility of the nationally-recognized Providence Health system in Columbia, SC. Providence Health was named the #1 hospital in Columbia by The U.S. News and World Report, which also ranked Providence as a High Performing Hospital for COPD, Heart Failure, Hip Replacement, and Knee Replacement.Founded as Providence Hospitals in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Providence is comprised of: two full-service hospitals; one freestanding emergency room; two sleep centers; two cardiac rehab facilities; one outpatient physical therapy, occupational, and speech therapy facility; two cardiopulmonary rehabilitation centers; a cardiovascular imaging school, and numerous satellite physician practices. On February 2, 2016, Providence Hospitals became part of the LifePoint Health network, and shortly thereafter, changed its name to Providence Health to better represent the full complement of its services.
