Welcome to the Animal Clinic of Iowa City,IA. We offer a wide variety of services for your pet. We have three full-time veterinarians, three licensed veterinary technicians, as well as an experienced support staff.
Some of the services we offer:
Surgeries-
Our doctors perform a wide variety of surgical procedures. We also offer laser assisted surgery. This is particularly beneficial for feline declaw patients, as it allows for faster, easier recovery. Dr. Gay is experienced in orthopedics, specializing in ACL repair. Please call ahead for an appointment.
Dentistry-
Regular dental cleanings are an important part of your pets overall health. The Animal Clinic has experienced, licensed technicians to clean, scale, and polish your pets teeth. Good dental hygiene can help prevent heart, liver, and kidney problems. Dental Care done Monday - Friday mornings by appointment.
Acupuncture and massage therapy-
Acupuncture and massage is available by appointment only. Please call to speak with Dr. Gaeth regarding scheduling.
Appointments-
Appointments are available for routine visits between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday - Friday, and 8:00am - 11:30am on Saturday. For emergencies during regular business hours please call ahead to inform us if possible. This will allow us to prepare for your arrival. For after hour emergencies please contact the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center.
Boarding-
Boarding is a service provided for current Animal Clinic clients. We have a variety of kennel sizes, with capacity for up to 25 animals. We feed Science Diet foods to all boarding animals. If your pet is on a special diet please provide your own food.

Avoid this vet!
My experience with this vets office was not the greatest. When we first moved to the area we had to use them for emergency treatment for our dog when he got into a dog fight. At the time we were not concerned with finding the best deal so we went with the first listed in the phone book. The quality of care provided by the vet was substandard to say the least, and we later discovered that the rates they charge for emergency visits is close to double what other vets in the area charge. We did not even return to this vet for follow up care because we were so dissatisfied with the experience.

Great service
Dr. Gay has treated all of our pets. They have received the highest quality of care from the time they were puppies. We had to have one of our dogs put to sleep and they handled a very tough situation with the greatest of care and concern. They even sent us a very nice card after it was done. We also board our dogs there while on vacation. It is so nice to see how excited our 2 dogs are to go there. It really eases your mind when you are leaving them for a period of time. I know they are well cared for and get lots of attention. They also offer grooming. We have our Yorkie groomed here regularly and they do an excellent job. He always comes home wearing a cute little scarf. Their prices are high, but that reflects the care that your animal is getting.

Most expensive vet I have ever been to
I'm not qualified to comment about the quality of care, since I am not a veterinarian, nor do I have a medical background. However, when I took my dog in to have her teeth cleaned, it cost twice what I paid at my last veterinarian. That's 100% more expensive. I don't think any veterinarian is worth that much money.

worst vet I have ever encountered
Dr Gay does all he can to pad the bill. I was charged over 600 dollars after I took my dog in for teeth cleaning. Over 600 dollars! On three separate occasions he brought up the possibility of cancer to me to scare me into paying for additional and unnecessary tests. I think he is an unethical vet, and I will do all I can to avoid going there ever again.

Mere salesmen
Based on my two years experience with this clinic, these reviews are accurate. These vets seem quite competent and compassionate but perform every test, prescribe every med and do all of it without educating the owner on just what they are doing and why (as the owner may protest, thereby cutting vet profits). Expect whatever you will pay to be multiplied by at least three, sometimes five times. I’m looking for another vet. Like any typical salesman today – who usually know more about their products and services than we do – veterinarians have fallen to this same sad category.

Money grubbing whores
This clinic is quite possibly one of the worst places to take your pet. I adopted a dog where this clinic was the dog's vet. I knew something was fishy from the start. The previous owner told me the dog was vegetarian and that the only place where food can be purchased for this dog was at their clinic. Now I'm no vet, but I'm pretty sure that dogs pretty much can eat anything. This dog was also on about 20 pills/day (not kidding). The dog is suffering from taking so much medication now. It seems to be mentally slower and it is not sociable around other humans or pets. This place is just a money grabbing whore with their practices of saying a dog is vegetarian and prescribing a ridiculous amount of drugsCash
