George Woodman, MD

Dr. George Woodman is a skilled bariatric surgeon who's been practicing in Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee, for approximately two decades. Dr. Woodman has a comprehensive, individualized approach to the management and care of bariatric patients, and encourages both surgical and non-surgical treatment methods.
He treats patients at Midsouth Bariatrics, with an office location in Memphis — connected to the Baptist Memphis Hospital — and Jackson, Tennessee, in front of the Jackson Madison Hospital.
In his two practices, Dr. Woodman is dedicated to providing nutritional, behavioral, exercise, medical, surgical, and group support to patients through customized treatment plans.

Dr. Woodman graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and went on to complete his surgical training at the University of Tennessee. He developed a keen interest and advanced skills in laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Woodman is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Having performed over 5,200 bariatric surgical procedures — such as sleeve gastrectomies, lap-bands, and gastric bypasses — he's highly experienced.
Dr. Woodman participates in multiple clinical trials involving devices designed as surgical or endoscopic aids for weight loss, which has contributed to the recent approvals of gastric balloons for balloon-assisted weight loss and the application of surgical techniques to candidates with a lower BMI.
Dr. Woodman is also the director of the Baptist Weight Loss Center in Memphis and the Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital Weight Loss Center – two bariatric centers of excellence.
