Bendi Jewelers' owner and designer Sami Nakishbendi has committed himself to design jewelry of elemental simplicity, enduring quality and beauty. Originally from Syria, Sami came to the U.S. in 1983 to attend college at Temple University. After pursuing architecture and dentistry majors, he entered the precious metals field and began wholesaling silver and gold during the day and working on his own designs at night. In 1997, Sami opened Bendi Jeweler's on Main Street in Manayunk for his original, custom-made designs. It was a decision that allowed him to combine his artistic approach to jewelry with a personal approach to client relationships, something he takes very seriously by having one-on-one design consultations with every customer. "I'm not just a salesman looking to sell a piece of jewelry," says Sami, "but an artist looking to transform what's in their head into a work of art that they can wear."
