She received her medical training at the Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, which has been recognized as one of the best research-oriented medical schools in the country. After receiving her medical degree in 1983, Dr. Bruell entered residency at the University of Illinois. She later joined the staff at this institution, where she worked as a clinical professor for 3 years.
In 1995, Dr. Bruell left the University of Illinois and returned to her home state of Michigan, where she opened her own practice in Livonia, Michigan. Dr. Bruell also serves on the staff at St. Mary Mercy-Livonia, Beaumont, and Providence hospitals.
