Mohammadpur College, Mohammadpur Girls College and Dhanmondi Central College were merged and named as 'Mohammadpur Central College' in 1975. Later, considering the historical context of the establishment of these institutions and the importance of using the Bengali language, the Bengali equivalent of the word 'Central' was adopted instead of the word 'Central'. Thus the name of the college was 'Mohammadpur Kendriya College'. Since its inception in 1969, the institution has gone through many ups and downs and reached its present position through the aforementioned evolution. [2] Humanities, Science and Business Education streams offer 21 and 21 subjects respectively at the Higher Secondary and Graduate (Pass) levels. There are 11 and 12 departments at undergraduate (honours) and postgraduate level respectively. Also, BBA and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) courses are available under the affiliated professional courses of the National University.
