Peter Hyson, MD, Physician

I grew up in Lake Placid and went to Middlebury College. My path to medicine meandered a bit through such pursuits as gettomg a master’s degree in Russian literature, spending a few seasons on a Maine lobster boat, and working as a ski lift attendant in Colorado. I attended medical school at the University of Vermont and completed my medicine residency at the University of Colorado. 

As a physician, I enjoy getting to know many people from my community and building relationships, sometimes over the course of years. It’s an honor to work toward mitigating illness and promoting health in my fellow Vermonters. 

I always strive to tailor treatment plans to the individual and meet my patients where they are rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to medicine. I aim to be both pragmatic and patient-centered in my management.

I am particularly fascinated by the study of infectious diseases, as it allows me to constantly learn about the ecology of disease on the microscopic level, to apply laboratory research and literature review to care at the bedside.

I live with my wife Kelley and my human and dog children, Wes and Yarrow. Outside of work, you can find me outdoors on a bike, skis, or in jogging shoes.
