I have loved both teaching and human physiology since I was 13 years old and worked as a volunteer at the Natural History Museum in my hometown of Denver, Colorado. My passion for learning and teaching about the human body animates my medical career and practice. I enjoy sitting down and getting to know patients to learn about their health problems from their perspective, and then working together to form a plan of care that centers the patient, with their health care providers as advisors, and perhaps more importantly, cheerleaders. I am also lucky to be able to continue to satisfy my curiosity by participating in laboratory-based and clinical research investigating how dietary intake and obesity combine to influence outcomes in patients with kidney disease. Outside of work, I am active with my three young children and wife, usually doing something outside from playing tennis, to Frisbee, to riding bikes to hiking in Carolina North Forest.
