Nicole Shen, MD

Nicole Shen, MD, is board-certified in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. Dr. Shen earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri. She completed her internship, residency, and fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, New York.

Dr. Shen provides comprehensive gastroenterology care to patients ages 18 and above needing colon cancer screening or suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding or other common gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and celiac disease. She also specializes in diagnosing and treating liver disease with a particular focus on alcohol-related liver disease, metabolic-associated fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, and autoimmune hepatitis.

The cornerstone of Dr. Shen’s medical practice is the importance of taking time to understand the patient’s health care concerns, connecting with the patient, and developing a robust and fundamental relationship. She believes the foundation for working together is to put a plan into action that addresses the patient’s concerns, optimizes their health, and is manageable for the patient. Dr. Shen finds helping patients struggling with gastrointestinal and liver diseases—offering them both clinical and procedural care—very rewarding.

Dr. Shen was born and raised in St. Louis, where she grew up playing a lot of select soccer, traveling every other weekend with her team, and even playing soccer abroad in Amsterdam. She is married with two daughters and a dog. Her weekends are full of activities with her busy young family. She also loves playing piano, going on long runs, attending yoga classes, and meditating whenever possible.
