Thomas A. Golper, MD, Nephrologist

As a nephrologist at the UVM Medical Center, taking care of patients and advancing the science of medicine are the most rewarding parts of my job. 

Kidney failure is a leading cause of permanent disability in the United States. Kidney failure often results from long-term chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. 

I’m interested in the home dialysis field and the administrative aspects of nephrology practice. I’ve published more than 200 articles and chapters on nephrology and served on the board of directors for the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) and Renal Physicians Association (RPA).  

More than anything, I care about patients, especially in empowering them to achieve their healthcare goals.
