Shilla Bakery was first started in 1999. At first, with humble beginnings, the baking was done in a small basement bakery. Now Korean food is very popular and trendy, but at that time Korean food was basically unrecognized. The founders recognized that and wanted to bring their culture to the area. They started out of a basement but their products were so delicious that people came in flocks, which is what led them to open in Annandale, VA.
For the first 5-10 years, it was mostly Korean customers. In the last 10 years, everyone loves it now! The stores are spread out in different areas. The original store is Annandale, then went to Tysons Corner, the most well-known mall on the east coast. Most of the locations are in Virginia, with one being in Maryland.
