Melissa J. Gibbs, M.D., is a multi-organ transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon at Piedmont Transplant Institute. Her special interests include laparoscopic liver surgery, multi-modality treatment of liver tumors, hepatocellular carcinoma, and living donor liver transplantation. Dr. Gibbs received her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. She completed her general surgery internship and residency at University of California Los Angeles Medical Center, performing research in the Dumont-UCLA Transplant Center laboratory. Dr. Gibbs completed her multi-organ abdominal transplant surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. She received her undergraduate degree with honors in biology from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Gibbs is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the American Society of Transplantation, the Transplantation Society, and the Association of Women Surgeons. Prior to joining the Piedmont team, Dr. Gibbs was a founding surgeon of the Abdominal Transplant Program at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, FL. Dr. Gibbs welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans.
