4L80E Transmission

The 4L80E transmission is a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission from General Motors. It was introduced in 1985 and was only used in North America. The 4L80E transmission is a 4-speed automatic transmission from General Motors. The 4L80E designation is derived from the powertrain series (4), the number of forwarding gears (8), and the number of reverse gears (0). It was introduced in 1988 for use in rear-wheel-drive cars and light trucks and was later used in front-wheel drive applications.

The 4L80E is a series of automatic transmissions launched by General Motors. 4L80E was specially designed and created for longitudinal engines. 4L80E series comprised of four forward gears. 4L80Es were only installed in GMC pickups, Hummer H1, commercial vehicles, and vans. It was later taken over by Rolls Royce in the year 1991 and improved after research and testing, it was then used in the Bentley Continental R, and later on other Bentley vehicles and Rolls Royce.
