Alan Hawxby, MD - Organ Transplant

Alan Hawxby, MD, FACS, is a kidney and liver transplant surgeon, and is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. His practice philosophy is to pay back everything that Medicine has given to him by using it as a way to serve; and a way to heal. Currently, Dr. Hawxby cares for patients with end stage renal disease, end stage liver disease, and other diseases of the liver. He performs kidney transplants, laparoscopic donor nephrectomies, liver transplants, hepatobiliary surgery, and general surgery. His professional interests include: Paired Kidney Donation, improving safety and quality, medical education, team-building, and health services research in the donor and transplant populations.

Dr. Hawxby earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri. After a brief career in process engineering, he completed medical school at the University of Oklahoma, followed by general surgery residency at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He then completed a transplant surgery fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Some of Dr. Hawxby’s hobbies include weightlifting, hiking, music, reading, and going to sporting events. He also likes to travel widely and to serve in community leadership roles.
