A steady rest is a rigid and heavy ring fixed to a bedways of turning center or lathe machine. The ring of steady rest is used to support the work piece. The jaws in steady rest are three in number but in some cases four, five or six can also be employed. The jaws are equipped with a roller that supports the work piece. Steady rest is clamped on the bedways in the required position between head stock and tail stock. The whole purpose is to keep the piece firm on lathe or CNC machine. Steady rests have wide range of applications in industries like automobile, marine, defense etc.
