My passion for medicine started at a very young age as I found the human body quite engaging and wanted to learn everything I could about the incredible processes that make it function. Most of all, I found that I enjoyed caring for patients and understanding how I could provide the best care possible. This led me to pursue a role in nursing at a major hospital for several years before continuing my education so that I could become a nurse practitioner and begin to see patients independently, working together to ensure the best level of care for each individual. I have a familiarity, and primary interest, in womens health practices. In this regard, Ive worked in a nursing role at a birthing center. Continuing my experience as a nurse practitioner, I was able to expand the scope of my interests to include members of the family in addition to mother and baby and to provide extended care to the entire family unit. My primary philosophy of care is that I believe in forming an intimate and trusting relationship with my patients. This enables me to feel that I can talk to them openly and honestly about their current health situation and work with them to ensure that the decisions being made regarding their health and the care provided are those that we both can agree with and are developed together with their best interests in mind. A large part of my life outside of work is currently devoted to spending time with my husband and our two children, ages 5 and 10 months. This includes almost weekly excursions to dance classes, museums, zoos and the library. Having grown up in a more northern climate, and attending college at UNC Wilmington, Ive found I greatly prefer life at the beach and try to take day trips to the North Carolina coast whenever possible. Sitting in the sand with a nice mystery book is something I enjoy very much, when I can find the time.
