Benjamin May, M.D.

Benjamin J. May, MD is a radiologist specializing in Interventional Radiology. He is an Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus.Dr. May graduated from the University of California – San Diego in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development.  In 2005, he was awarded the Golding Service and Research Scholarship to attend the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he earned his M.D. degree in 2009. Dr. May was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society and served as President of the Albert Einstein Medical Student Chapter of the American Medical Association.Following an internship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. May completed residency training in Diagnostic Radiology (2010-2014) at NewYork Presbyerian – Weill Cornell Medical Center. There, he served as Chief Resident and earned the Alexander R. Margulis Award in 2013 for excellence in residency. He remained at NYP-WCMC for a year of fellowship training in Interventional Radiology.  Both his residency and fellowships included significant training at Memorial Sloan Kettering.  After finishing his subspecialty training,  Dr. May was recruited to remain as full time faculty within the Weill Cornell Medical College Department of Radiology.Dr. May’s clinical expertise is in Interventional Radiology. His practice focuses liver and biliary cancer, liver cirrhosis, deep venous disease, IVC filter placement and retrieval, kidney and ureteral obstruction, pediatric interventions, and interventional oncology including tumor ablation and embolization throughout the body. He performs a variety of other procedures including embolization for chronic knee hemarthrosis, endovascular embolization, uterine fibroid embolization, chest wall port placement, central venous catheter placement, and biopsies throughout the body. Dr. May remains an educational resource to the medical student community. He directs the Weill Cornell medical student rotations in interventional radiology and organizes the IR lecture series for radiology residents. Dr. May has authored numerous research articles and book chapters. His research has been published in several prestigious journals such as the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and the American Journal of Roentgenology.  Dr. May also serves as a reviewer for the journal of Clinical Imaging.
