Louisiana Pain Institute: Cathy Zhang, MD

Welcome To Our Practice
Cathy Zhang, MD, is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. She specializes in chronic pain medicine at Louisiana Pain Institute with offices in Covington and Denham Springs, Louisiana. 
Dr. Zhang earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh with a dual major in neuroscience and business. She then pursued her medical degree at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, where she earned a distinctive honor award for outstanding student in medical microbiology. 
Afterward, she completed her anesthesiology and perioperative medicine residency training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. There, she was recognized for her clinical excellence in pain medicine and was awarded the prestigious J. Antonio Aldrete Award for Excellence in Pain Medicine.  
During this time, Dr. Zhang focused on patient safety, continuous quality improvement, and graduate medical education. She also served in numerous organizational leadership positions. 
Dr. Zhang completed her fellowship in chronic pain medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she learned a multidisciplinary approach to pain management by working with anesthesiologists, neurologists, surgeons, psychiatrists, and physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors.
After completing 13 years of education and training, Dr. Zhang is proud to return to her home state of Louisiana to serve her community. She lives on the North Shore of Louisiana with her fiancé, John, and their golden retriever, Jasper. 
When she isn’t working, Dr. Zhang enjoys being active and learning new sports. She also likes hiking, being out on the water, and fishing.
