Jamie Marie Ruebhausen, FNP

I chose to be a Nurse Practitioner because I strongly felt I would be able to make a difference in patient care. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, I worked as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at The University of Kansas Healthy System Level 1 Trauma Center. This experience showed me that there was a large group of people that needed better access to preventive medicine and patient education. While I enjoyed emergency medicine and trauma, I wanted to be a positive asset to healthcare/disease prevention. The most important aspect within my philosophy of medicine is always doing what is best for the patient. I pride myself in listening to patients’ concerns and creating a treatment plan together. I believe it is important for patients to understand their healthcare and be an active participant. Education is one of my top priorities to allow patients to better understand their health concerns and treatment plan. I provide all patients the same outstanding care and enjoy working closely with members of diverse cultures and ethnicities as well as LGBTQIA+ members. An area of medicine that is of special interest to me is Obesity Medicine. In addition to working in Internal Medicine, I also possess experience working within the Weight Management Clinic at The University of Kansas Health System. While working in this clinic, I learned the importance of addressing obesity as a disease and providing treatment and management to assist patients with weight-loss and healthy lifestyles. Outside of work, I enjoy physical fitness, particularly weightlifting. Spending time in nature is one of my favorite hobbies. Recently relocating to North Carolina has been an exciting adventure; being so close to the mountains and the ocean has been a welcomed change from the Midwest amber waves of grain. My family and I cannot wait to further explore our new surroundings.
