I seek to balance the cure orientation of medicine with the care orientation of nursing to promote healing of the body, mind, and soul of my patients. For me, it’s important to remember that my calling into this profession has to do with more than just meeting my patient’s physical needs. I believe, to truly care for another individual, I must attempt to enter into, and stay within, my patient’s frame of reference to ascertain his/her spirit and seek to connect with his/her inner life world and to view him/her as whole and complete regardless of disease and illness. I believe we are all beings with physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual needs. We are bound together by our commonalities and diversities. What we do and how we care for one another does have an effect on the world around us.
