Walter Cifuentes

Walter Cifuentes, PharmD is a member of Summit Health’s Pharmacy team. Dr. Cifuentes is trained in all areas of pharmacy and is experienced in answering questions about medication regimens, including dosing, side effects and drug interactions. He has special interest in Specialty Pharmacy with a focus in oral oncology, an area that requires special handling and more involved patient management as well as insurance pre-authorizations.

Dr. Cifuentes speaks to and cares for each patient the way he would want someone to speak to and care for his loved ones. As an advocate and partner in their health, ensuring patients feel educated and empowered is what’s most important to him. Years of experience has made Dr. Cifuentes acutely aware that patients have already received and overwhelming amount of information from other providers on their condition. “Luckily, I am able to collaborate with providers to get a full understanding of a patient’s medication profile, but I am often the last clinician a patient sees before they begin treatment, so it is my job to make sure they completely understand every piece of information they’ve been provided,” he says.

Dr. Cifuentes holds Certified Specialty Pharmacist Certification (CSP) and is fluent in Spanish. He is passionate about providing access to care to underserved communities and spends time volunteering with Summit Health Foundation as their volunteer pharmacist.

When not working with patients, Dr. Cifuentes enjoys skiing, hiking, and gardening with his wife and two sons. His children are very involved in sports, so he and his wife volunteer for several different youth sport organizations in their community.
