Matthew Shiel, MD, Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist

Matthew Shiel, MD is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. 

Dr. Shiel specializes in bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures, and his research interests include pediatric bleeding & clotting disorders. His published research can be found here. 

Finding out that a child has a blood disorder or cancer is a life-changing event for the child and family.  From the first meeting, Dr. Shiel stresses that they are on this journey together, and helps families navigate the complexities of care. He understands that communication is critical, and that it is essential for patients and families to always feel comfortable asking questions and staying connected. He enjoys the development of long-term relationships with patients and looks forward to helping them.
