Dr. Roya Karbakhsh, MD, PLC, specializes in adult and child and adolescent psychiatry, offering a compassionate and integrative approach customized to each person’s unique mental health and lifestyle needs. Dr. Karbakhsh welcomes new and existing patients at her office in Scottsdale, Arizona.
After receiving her medical degree from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Isfahan, Iran, Dr. Karbakhsh attended New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, where she successfully completed her psychiatry residency.
Her love of children led Dr. Karbakhsh to complete the renowned child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at New York University Langone Health in New York City. During her fellowship, she worked as an instructor for residents and medical students. She also completed a study on child and adolescent psychopharmacology at Mount Sinai in New York City.
Since finishing her psychiatric training, Dr. Karbakhsh has gained extensive experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as day programs. 
At her private practice, she values a holistic approach that combines nutritional counseling, mindfulness meditation, coherence breathing and relaxation techniques with medication management and her skill in numerous therapeutic modalities.
Dr. Karbakhsh frequently helps patients using cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and compassionate inquiry, to name a few of the many therapies she employs. 
When working with children, she specializes in techniques such as play therapy, sandbox therapy, and parent-child interaction therapy.
