Alan Yahanda, MD

Alan Yahanda, MD, FACS, is a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist with more than 25 years of experience. He completed his fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Prior to that, he attended medical school and completed his general surgery residency at John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He also received surgical training at the John Radcliffe Hospital, the academic hospital affiliated with Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

Before joining SSM Health, Dr. Yahanda practiced at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Newnan, Georgia, and served as the Chair of Surgery for the five-hospital CTCA enterprise. He is a board-certified general surgeon and holds a specialty certificate in Complex General Surgical Oncology. He has particular interest in the surgical management of cancers of the pancreas, bile duct, stomach, skin and soft tissues.

When meeting with patients, Dr. Yahanda views his relationship with them as a partnership, with each person bringing their own experiences and priorities to help guide their treatment plan. He has learned from each patient of their tremendous courage and strength as they move through their cancer journey.

He is a fellow with the American College of Surgeons and is a member of numerous professional associations, including Society of Surgical Oncology, American Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology.

When Dr. Yahanda is not working, he is spending time with his wife and children. He is an avid paddleboarder, snow skier and cook. He enjoys trying new cuisines, as well as reading about food.
