Jovita Oruwari, MD

Jovita Oruwari, MD, FACS, is fellowship trained from Brown University Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, in breast diseases. Prior to that, she attended medical school at New Jersey University in Newark and completed her general surgery residency at University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey.

Since 2001, Dr. Oruwari, a board-certified surgeon, has been practicing breast surgery. She has a special interest in treating young and minority women of all ages with breast cancer and breast disease.

Before joining SSM Health, Dr. Oruwari practiced as a breast surgeon at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. She has received the Best Doctors honor from 2007 to 2016.

She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and Mound City medical forum, and an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is also on the Board of Directors for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery and Gateway to Hope.

Dr. Oruwari has completed extensive training in Hidden Scar® Breast Cancer Surgery, an advanced approach to removing breast cancer. She performs both Hidden Scar Lumpectomy/Partial Mastectomy and Hidden Scar Mastectomy procedures. During Hidden Scar® Breast Cancer Surgery, the incision is made in the fold under the breast, around the edge of the nipple area or in the armpit, so the scar is less visible after breast surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Oruwari enjoys reading, running, cooking, traveling and writing. She is married to a psychiatrist and is a mother to two adult children.
