Brain and spine neurosurgical conditions have a tremendous impact on functional ability and consequently, quality of life. It is important that as a neurosurgeon, my role extends far beyond just providing the technical aspects of surgical intervention. Understanding each of my patients, their neurological situation, anatomical considerations, level of activity, and unique circumstances are all factors which serve as the basis for a treatment plan. My philosophy as a neurosurgeon is to optimize a patient's functional level and minimize discomfort, whether this involves medical or surgical management.
