When I reflect on my most cherished memories from my childhood, they all have one thing in common; my Grandmother’s house in Sharon Hill, Delaware County. That humble 1,200 square foot home, was the meeting place for countless holiday celebrations, birthday parties, and cousin sleepovers. Those four walls were where my father and his 7 siblings were raised, and where they brought their children back for crowded Sunday night dinners. It didn’t matter what was going on in my life, when I walked through that door, I knew what it felt like to be home, we all did. Sadly, that all changed in 2012, when the Matriarch of our family, my Grandmother, passed away from a heart attack. Our family was crushed. We did what she taught us over all of those years, and we came together, leaning on one another for support, while trying to figure out what life looked like without her. In the midst of that grief, our family was also burdened with what to do with the house that we all loved so much, but could certainly use some love and attention itself. The logistics after losing a loved one, are a different level of exhausting, but adding to it the emotional toll it takes to make decisions that you don’t feel completely clear on; it is nothing short of overwhelming. And so without answers, our family decided to let the house proceed into foreclosure. It was heartbreaking to see my Dad, Aunts, Uncles and Cousin’s watch 50 plus years of memories go into foreclosure. It was that experience that shaped MJK Equities mission: to help families and individuals relieve the stress of their real estate related problems.
