About The Practice
Family medicine physician Diaa Hussein, MD, MPH, is the medical director of Greenway Health in Morganton, North Carolina.
​A native of Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Hussein received his medical degree from Cairo University in 1978 and completed a one-year rotating internship at Cairo University Hospitals. Afterward, he was awarded a scholarship to the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans and earned a Master of Public Health in August 1983.
Dr. Hussein pursued his career in public health and community medicine. He headed the Preventive Medicine Department of the Armed Forces Hospitals-Southern Region in Saudi Arabia from 1985-1992.
In 1992, Dr. Hussein returned to the United States to complement his public health experience with training in family practice. He completed a one-year internship at Jefferson Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia and a three-year residency in family practice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in New Jersey. He was certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in 1996.
Dr. Hussein worked for the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Virginia, from July 1996-June 2002 and for the Carolina HealthCare System Blue Ridge in Morganton, North Carolina, from March 2002-June 2004. ​
In July 2004, Dr. Hussein founded his private practice, Greenway Family Practice, in Morganton, North Carolina, and in November 2016, Dr. Hussein founded the Greenway Health Opioid Addiction Treatment program. In March 2020, Dr. Hussein dedicated Greenway Health as a virtual clinic serving patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Hussein is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, North Carolina Medical Society, Burke County Medical Society, Obesity Medicine Association, and Addiction Professionals of North Carolina.
