No one gets out of this life alive! Pretty usual statement to lead with, isn't it? Well, to be honest, that is exactly what this site is all about, it's about realizing that as much as we try to avoid the inevitable, we are all alive and dying. For the past 25 years of my life, I have had the privilege of working with the geriatric population as a nurse in long term care, and then a hospice nurse, and I can tell you that the journey is filled with laughter, memories are made, and old memories are revisited. It is, for the most part, a beautiful experience. Unfortunately, we don't talk about our wishes for the end of life, "oh, not the DNR," and the Living Wills and all that stuff; the important stuff - like where do you want to live? Who do you want to take care of you? What music do you want playing? What foods do you want? Do you want to be artificially fed? All the little things that can mean so much to you and to your loved ones, who have a chance to make your final days the best they can be.
