Joanna K Smith began practicing law in 2001 and is licensed in the State of Colorado.

Joanna grew up on a ranch in Hasty, Colorado and is the 15th of 16 children reared by a stay at home mother who then started working for the veteran’s administration at the age of 63 and her father was a World War II veteran proudly serving in the 10th Mountain Division.

Prior to her career in law, Joanna worked fourteen years for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Denver, Colorado. She was a compliance manager and traveled throughout the United States, working with other divisions of Lockheed Martin and its subcontractors as a recognized specialist in compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulations.

After graduating law school and passing the bar in 2001, Joanna and her husband Pat moved from Denver to Canon City, Colorado, to enjoy the smaller community environment and the beautiful landscape of Fremont County. Joanna opened her own practice in 2003 specializing in family law and estate planning.

Joanna also practices in the area of child protection, representing either parents who have had their children removed from their care or the children removed from their parents. Although this is a very difficult field, this area of law can be very rewarding whether families are reunified successfully or in serious cases parental rights are terminated. Joanna also has a very strong connection with the elderly and is very passionate about protecting them. She enjoys the outdoors and is a passionate dog and equine owner.
