Richard Berardi, DO, is a member of Summit Health's Internal Medicine team. He has over 25 years of clinical practice experience and has received numerous professional accolades, including recognition from Press Gainey, “America’s Top Physicians” (Castle Connolly, 2011-2019) and NJ "Top Docs" (2016-2022) for Internal Medicine, and from Kingston Marquis Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare; The Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Berardi was also featured as a Top Doc in the January 2021 issue of Healthy Living. He brings a vast experience that includes serving as the Medical Director for the Family Health Center at Community Medical Center in Toms River where he received both Physician of the Year and Director of Department of the Year.

Additionally, he has been an Affiliate Physician, Division of Clinical Practice, Columbia University, the Medical Director of the Osteopathic Medical Residency program at Overlook Hospital, Medical Director of "Weigh to Live" a medically managed weight loss program, and most recently, Medical Director of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department where he successfully guided the dismissal of a federally mandated oversight that had been in place for seven years prior to his arrival, in his first 18 months. He functioned as Principal Investigator (PI) and Sub-Investigator (Sub-PI) on Clinical Trials including Merck PPAR (diabetes), Novartis DROP (microalbuminuria), Lilly HMAV (diabetic neuropathy), Lilly LVEN (erectile dysfunction), Aventis (Goal A1C), and Glaxo SMART (asthma) and Goal (diabetes). He currently serves as President on the Board of Health for the City of Summit and was the former Medical Director for Spring Grove Skilled Nursing facility in New Providence. Dr. Berardi is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a Certified Correctional Health Professional.

Dr Berardi notes that he entered health care because he found he always enjoyed helping others. “I cherish opportunities to help patients understand their medical conditions and empower them with knowledge, so we can work together to prevent, control, and reverse their issues,” he states. “I am a firm believer in nutrition and lifestyle choices as the cornerstone of good health. When I meet a patient, I want them to know I am there to work with them and help them achieve their best health,” he adds.

When he is away from medicine, Dr. Berardi enjoys reading, hiking, running, going to the gym, and most of all, being with his wife of 25 years and their three children.
