John van Bockxmeer, MD

John van Bockxmeer is a family physician who moved to New York from Western Australia. Dr van Bockxmeer aims to deliver trauma-informed, compassionate and evidence-based care for patients of any age. John wishes to partner with patients, listening to their priorities and making shared plans. He has an interest in chronic disease management and recently worked as a senior doctor in the opioid crisis response in British Columbia, Canada. He has a passion for health equity with clinical experience across six continents. He has a master’s in public health and Tropical Medicine. During his emergency medicine and primary care residencies he founded ‘Fair Game Australia’, a health promotion charity improving outcomes in remote Aboriginal communities. He is involved with a number of community-based initiatives holding leadership roles within medical organizations.He remains interested in patient safety and quality and has published research on a variety of pediatric and adult medicine topics.
