Sleep is not a luxury; it is a necessity! Sleep is so important for proper development of the brain and body. Just a few of the benefits of achieving optimal sleep include strengthening the immune system, reducing stress, improving memory, and decreasing symptoms of mental illnesses like anxiety and depression. Sleep is also a skill. And like all skills, it must be taught and practiced. For these reasons, I believe it is a parent’s responsibility to set healthy sleep boundaries and expectations.
